This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I spent this past school year as a long-term sub at the same school, and to my surprise, I was offered my very own class of bright, amazing 3rd graders for the upcoming year! I saw their smiling faces in the halls every day and have heard so many wonderful things about them from their former teachers. As a mom of three and a full-time college student, I’m not working this summer, and these classroom supplies just aren’t in the budget. But I don’t want my own limitations to affect the learning environment my students walk into every day.

I teach at a Title I school, where many students may not always find learning exciting but I believe creating a colorful, welcoming space can help change that.

The rug will give us a cozy area for group learning, the doorbell will help keep transitions smooth and calm, and the colorful paper will bring life to their desks, making the room feel special and fun. My hope is that a bright and cheerful classroom will help my students feel excited to show up each day, ready to learn and grow.
