This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a Title 1 school, in a suburb of Portland, OR. Roughly 51% of the students receive free and reduced-price lunch. I have 28 different learners; 14-third graders, 14-second graders, nine English language learners, students with ADHD, autism, and other special needs. My students are capable and eager to learn, but their bodies and brains aren't always working together. I'm constantly looking for innovative ways to engage my students, enable growth mindset and curiosity of the world around them.

My Project

The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. I am constantly trying to get students to come up to the board and solve problems. When students actively participate in their education they are motivated to learn. Student engagement is key and an interactive whiteboard will reach students with varied learning styles by creating lessons that are simultaneously visual, tactile and audible. This will increase their learning by sharing what they know quickly with the whole class!

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

Studies have shown that using smart technology in the classroom has proven success rates; it raises test scores, improves student learning, enhances literacy, boosts attentiveness, and increases comprehension, to name a few. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their learning engagement and their desire to learn and use the new technology!
