This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are sixth graders who are still learning how to be students. They often come to class disorganized, overwhelmed, or unsure of what to do next—and that’s totally normal at this age. They need a lot of modeling, reminders, and structure to help them feel successful in the classroom. What makes them special is that, with the right supports, they do grow. They start to take pride in being more independent, and they feel more confident when things are broken down and accessible.
This project will give each student a binder and set of dividers so they can organize their scaffolded notes and class activities all in one place.
Instead of digging through backpacks or losing track of materials, they’ll have a simple, predictable system that we’ll build together. I’m creating my own custom materials so that students aren’t just given a blank page—they’ll have structured, guided notes that help them focus, stay on task, and actually understand what we’re learning. These notes can sometimes even be used on quizzes or projects, reinforcing the idea that staying organized and engaged pays off. My goal is to teach them how to use their binders as a learning tool—not just a place to store papers, but something they can turn to when they’re stuck, studying, or trying to catch up. These resources will help reduce stress, build study habits, and make our classroom routines smoother for everyone.
