My Project

I am an early childhood educator at a tiny and wonderful public school in the heart of Old Town, Albuquerque! This year I am teaching a combination class, serving a combination of kindergarteners and first graders. One of my favorite things to teach children is their important role in protecting and loving nature. We live in a biodiverse community with a lot of wildlife on our campus, such as cranes, geese, and porcupines! Part of raising children to love and protect their planet is showing them how our Earth provides for us and nurtures us. Planting fruits, flowers, and vegetables is the best way to do this and ties in so many valuable learning themes. I hope to integrate more content area while providing basic life skills to my budding scholars. I can garden outdoors with students only part of the year. Having an indoor Gardyn hydroponic garden for 30 plants will allow my 5-7 year olds to grow fresh fruit, vegetables, and flowers indoors year-round. Having an indoor garden of fresh produce will allow me to have fresh ingredients year-round for my students to grow, cook with, and eat! I hope this will foster early life skills and love of trying new, healthy, and organic ingredients to use as we eat together and learn to cook and assemble simple dishes! Thank you for your support!
