Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hardworking and love to learn! One of the greatest things about teaching Kindergarten is the students' enthusiasm for learning new things. We work on many projects throughout the school year. My students love to be challenged and are eager to explore new concepts.
Many of my students are English language learners and come from very diverse backgrounds.
They love to engage in hands on learning activities. Their language skills develop when they are working with other students in fun, engaging projects!
My Project
The best way to explore Science is hands on! My students will be studying the life cycles of many animals and insects this Spring. One life cycle in particular will be caterpillars and their metamorphosis to butterflies. We need 6 Painted Lady Larvae culture cups. These larvae (caterpillars) come in clear cups, food included, and allow students to watch, first hand, as the caterpillars go through the changes to become butterflies! Throughout this 30 day cycle, students are able to observe this transformation. This is a hands on experience which will include observation, note taking, documenting with photos, making predictions and eventually the release of adult butterflies to nature.
This project will be part of a larger unit of study which includes planting a class flower garden, where our butterflies will be released .
Students will be responsible for taking care of this garden; planting, watering, and weeding so our butterflies can be released into an enviting habitat!
