From Amoebas To Humans: All Life Is Made Up Of Cells
My students need microscopes, to perform hands on research.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Diaz's classroom raised $556
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
See it live before your eyes! Looking under a microscope for the first time and viewing microscopic life, always leads to great scientific questions and the desire to learn more about the building blocks of life.
My students come from various social economic backgrounds including but not limited to: College educated parents who are very active in their lives and at school; others come from struggling single parent homes, with minimal access to technology.
All of the students however, share a passion to learn and particularly love science. As a science teacher in a science magnet, I feel it is my responsibility to expose all the students to the most up to date resources available to assist in fostering their growth in science.
My Project
With the use of new microscopes, students would be able to take their education a step beyond the theory of science. Text books only provide still shots of cells and saliva, while microscopes provide a portal to actual live visuals. This will enable all students the valuable hands on tools to observe, take notes, and share their finding with the rest of the class. This in my opinion is actual science, which is a major component absent from our science laboratory. Currently, we lack the resources to purchase these much needed instruments. Therefore, most if not all may not have the privilege to this technology.
It is vital that we receive support for this project as the students will need to know about cells and their function.
Also, as part of the state and district standards, they will be assessed on their abilities to explain their understanding of the basic parts of the cell that make up life!
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
