This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Thank you for reviewing this proposal. I teach 7th grade science in a low-income Chicago neighborhood. The students in my class range from extremely enthusiastic about science, to those convinced that science is all about boring lab reports.
Most of these students have been in underfunded schools their whole lives, and have received the message that they are not worth what students in better-funded districts are worth. Our school is working hard to send a different message, but we do still have funding problems for special projects such as this.
Many students in my class have expressed interest in becoming doctors, entering forensics or other science-based professions. I want to provide them the experience and confidence that may help give a few the nudge they need to continue toward this goal. Giving students the responsibility of sharing a frog to dissect in pairs that they "own" and allowing them to work through the process will give them great confidence in science and their abilities. To do this we will enough frogs to allow all students the opportunity to have this hands-on experience.
You can help give our students a valuable and memorable learning experience. I have found these students to be extremely appreciative of encouragement, and I am definitely appreciative of your consideration as well. Thank you!
