This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learning math can be challenging, unless you use frogs!

My students are attending a school that is 97% Latin population, with a large number in homes in which Spanish is spoken.

It is a high poverty area in California with many obstacles in their way. The local high school has a very high drop out rate.

My Project

In order to give my students a solid foundation, I am requesting number lines that will give them a head start in math. Many in this population shy away from math and science. I want to show them that being successful in these areas is a possibility. I am requesting a large hands on number line to use in conjunction with a small number line for each student. The number lines have small frogs that may be moved forward and backwards. Students will enjoy moving their frogs, and calculate numbers at the same time! This will give them another strategy to use when adding and subtracting. A conceptual understanding of math will lend them that head start in math and science.

We would really appreciate your help in this project.

The California Common Core standards are in effect this year for grades K-1. I would like my students to have any and every advantage possible!
