My Students

I try to instill my passion for science and the world we live in, into my classroom every day by actively engaging students in a relatable, fun, interactive and hands on way. My favorite part about teaching science is watching students unknowingly immerse themselves into the content.

I see 85 students daily, two 7th and one 8th grade class.

All 85 of my students are unique individuals with their own strengths, needs and learning style. As a science teacher I try my best to encompass those three characteristics daily. My school revolves around student needs, in an urban, low-income environment, I am driven to support and serve each of my students to the best of my ability. As a public school with little structure and less funding it is definitely a tough environment. However, this always keeps me on my toes and motivates me to be my best self for my students success. Like all middle school students, my students are high energy, rambunctious and very curious children. They love to explore and try new things and are always up to a challenge.

My Project

The 7th grade curriculum ends with body systems. I remember to date the day that I walked into my 7th grade classroom to see preserved frogs, tools and gloves on the lab benches. This was coincidentally the unit of study when I also decided to be a science teacher with a focus on biology. This memorable experience changed my life and I hope it will do the same for my students. My students have never experienced anything like this before. It would be a unique and impactful learning experience for them. Our frog dissection would take place during or at the end of our body systems unit and act as a formative assessment for student learning.

This project will give my students an opportunity to see, touch and smell the real body systems of an organism.

In science, it is necessary that students are exposed to real-life experiences to create the connection between school and reality. My students do not have the ability to explore outdoors and this project would bring the outdoors to them.
