My Students

We are a small magnet school with a 'Medical' theme. Our students come from all over Hillsborough County, many traveling for hours by bus each day in order to attend our magnet program.

Our school is an 'achievement' school, which means that we are focusing on making great gains in academics.

As the Media Specialist, I focus on providing fun reading and MakerSpace/ creative opportunities for all students.

My Project

I try to make visiting the Media Center a fun, productive, and stimulating experience for all students. Whether they are visiting to browse for books or to spend some time in the MakerSpace, I like to make sure there is always something new and fun to catch their attention.

All of the materials I am requesting in this project will provide kids with opportunities to form bonds with others.

The camera will be used as part of a 'buddy book' station, where multiple copies of books will be available so that kids can form their own book clubs. The hands-on materials are to provide calming, meditative activities for classmates to enjoy together at the MakerSpace. I have noticed that while engaged in craft projects, like working with textiles, kids are relaxed and open to having great conversations together.
