Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Being an educator, I hate to see kids go hungry. Many of our students elect to not eat the school lunch in our cafeteria, so as a result, students go hungry and unengaged throughout the day. By not consuming a healthy well-balanced meal while in school, students are less engaged and unfocused. Basic needs come before all other needs! If students are thirsty or hungry they can't do their best learning. We want to combat this reality by providing our students with a brand new mini refrigerator to store their lunches and snacks from home. Our mini fridge has quit and we need to replace it.
This mini fridge will help my students do their best learning by staying hydrated.
It will be housed in the classroom for students to use to keep their drinks cold. It will also be a place where students can save their extra food from breakfast and lunch. This will help prevent food waste and keep my students fed.
An added bonus of having a fridge in the classroom will be the convenience it will provide for special science experiments or cooking experiences that often occur in our classroom! Examples of these lessons are making friendship bread, friendship salad, ice cream as well as learning the science behind them.
