My Students
My students have a yearning to learn, but don't feel represented in what they read. Often times, they open the text and do not see themselves in what they read and that leads to frustration.
They want to learn and develop the skills necessary to process and analyze what they read.
I have one copy of The Hate U Give in my classroom and every day someone asks to read it or if I could read it to them. I want to make that happen.
My Project
It's time for students to start thinking about how to make the world a better place. We all see the news about another shooting here or there, but I don't hear any students talking in the school hallways talks about positive changes that need to be made. By reading The Hate U Give, we will begin the dialogue that is so desperately needed.
My freshman students will have the ability to look deeper than just what is seen on the news.
They will be able to see themselves in a book, connect with it, and analyze it in order to come up with viable solutions and finally have their voices heard.
