Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our Title I school is unique because the majority of our students are second language learners. Many of them are refugees from countries that are riddled with poverty, violence, and prosecution. Our neighborhood is one that struggles with poverty and hunger. All of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. We also partner with Feeding America to bring groceries to the families twice a month.

Despite the obstacles facing these students and their community, they are determined, intelligent, and eager to succeed.

We have a wonderful opportunity to learn about many different cultures and languages. The students develop a respect for one another that is built on trust and friendships.

My Project

Last year was a struggle for everyone! With the pandemic, came distance learning. With distance learning, came empty classrooms and quiet schools. This year I would like to freshen up my classroom with some new decorations and furniture.

Each year I find myself spending lots of money on simple necessities such as labels for folders, notebooks, pencil boxes, and more.

This project will provide that as well as bulletin board supplies. My outdoor bulletin board needs to be changed frequently due to our outdoor school setting.

In addition, I am requesting items to improve our curriculum. I have never had a class set of watercolor paints. I would like to focus on incorporating more art lessons this year.
