Fresh Start in 3rd: Help Us Create A Joyful Space

Help me give my students an organized, welcoming classroom where they can learn and grow with cozy leaf floor rocker chairs, a nature-inspired reading corner with moss rugs, leaf and stone pillows, flexible storage, and engaging games.

My Project

My students are full of energy, curiosity, and kindness. They come to school eager to learn and grow, and they thrive in a classroom that feels welcoming, organized, and calm. After 11 years in 2nd grade, I’m moving up to 3rd grade—and into a brand new classroom that I’m working to transform into a space that supports focus, independence, and joy.

Each item in this project has been thoughtfully chosen to help create a warm, engaging, and functional learning environment.

I’m creating a cozy, nature-themed book corner where students feel safe, calm, and excited to explore books. With soft moss-like rugs, comfy pillows, and flexible seating, this space will become a go-to spot for independent reading. For reluctant readers, environment matters—a welcoming nook can make all the difference. Surrounded by books and a peaceful space, I hope to help every student build confidence, fluency, and curiosity.

Rocker chairs support focus and self-regulation while giving students choice in how they learn best. The gentle movement helps them stay engaged and comfortable, making learning feel more student-centered.

As I prepare for this transition, storage baskets will help students stay organized and confident in a new space. With everything starting from scratch, these baskets will give materials a clear home and support smooth routines, encouraging independence and responsibility.

My students also love playing games. Many haven’t been exposed to traditional card or board games, so I use hands-on logic and building games during morning arrival. This routine sets a calm, positive tone for the day and promotes communication, sharing, and problem-solving. Morning Choice helps students start the day with purpose, independence, and a sense of belonging.
