Fresh Start for a Fresh Year

My students need a fresh start- pencils and erasers, paper and notebooks, a sharpener, markers, and an audio visual cart so they can follow along with the projector during lessons.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Foust's classroom raised $402

My Students

Welcome to our Fantastic First Grade! I teach amazing 6-7 years old children. They are happy, sweet, and eager to learn because they know one day they will change the world.

My students all live in the west side of Chicago and face very real challenges every day, yet come to school full of enthusiasm and pride.

Almost ninety percent of our school population come from low-income homes; what we lack in money, we make up for in effort, love, and hope. Living where they do shouldn't mean a lesser education, and I am here to make sure they reach for the stars.

I have a large, happy, inclusive classroom- which means I am lucky enough to teach excited students with a variety of learning styles and backgrounds- special education and general education combined. Everyday is an opportunity. I want them to be as happy learning as I am to be teaching.

My Project

We need some basic supplies to get our year started on the right foot. It may seem simple but without the proper materials, our days do not go as smoothly as they could. Wasted time and materials only make us lose out on learning, and my little ones want to learn!

These materials would set us up for success and ensure we hit the ground running, giving my students the chance to reach their goals!

How will these supplies accomplish this? Let me explain-

The time that is wasted sharpening pencils with a faulty sharpener means less time learning, and the frustration that goes along with sharpening one to the nub only to have the lead fall out is outrageous! The lined paper and primary notebooks will help my little ones learn how to write their words with proper letter formation and give them ample space for writing, drawing, and practicing. The expo markers provide a fun way to practice writing, drawing, and math problems on individual whiteboards. Last but not least- a sturdy presentation cart will allow us to keep our technology equipment safe while following along with class lessons, and ensure our projector is at the right height to display interactive lessons on our board.

Becoming readers, writers, and mathematicians is hard work, but with these gifts the journey will be smooth sailing!
