Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I had 28 students in my classroom with a wide range of abilities, needs, and concerns this school year. I am expected to have about the same number of students in the 2017-2018 school year. My students are in a low income/high poverty school in which 84.4% of the students receive free or reduced price meals. Our school is high poverty and many students cannot afford a whole lot.
My students are a group of amazing, creative minds eager to learn!
My Project
I will teach my students the proper way to brush and floss so they learn early the importance of good dental hygiene. I will send dental hygiene supplies home, along with a note to parents explaining the importance of creating good dental hygiene habits at an early age.
One of our focuses in Pre-kindergarten is to develop good personal habits that will help our students stay healthy.
The students will receive full sizes of toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss, and toothbrushes. This will ensure that they have a fresh start, as some have never brushed their teeth at home. Some may not be able to afford these items and this will be a big blessing to them.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
