My Project
What I love most about my AP Literature students is their eagerness to dive deep into complex texts. They're not just reading—they're dissecting, analyzing, and engaging with literature on a level that prepares them for college and beyond. However, to do this effectively, they need fresh copies of novels that they can annotate directly.
The specific novels I’m requesting—Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz, and Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison—will allow my students to interrogate complex ideas such as identity, heritage, and the human experience.
These texts are rich with themes that challenge students to think critically and explore diverse perspectives. By having their own copies, each student will be able to annotate directly, marking key passages, writing down their thoughts, and making the text their own. This active engagement is crucial for deep learning and helps them connect with the material on a more personal level.
My goal for this project is to provide my students with the resources they need to fully engage with the literature. Annotating directly in the book helps them to remember details, make connections, and develop a deeper understanding of the material. It's a skill they'll carry with them throughout their academic careers and beyond.
My students are special because they are genuinely invested in their education. They come to class ready to discuss, debate, and discover. They are a diverse group of learners, each bringing their own unique perspective to our discussions. With your support, I can give them the tools they need to succeed and thrive in AP Literature and beyond.
