Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 3rd grade students are from East Harlem in New York City. They come from diverse backgrounds and learning levels. This is an ICT class with many students having Individual Educational Plans and we also have English language learners. Many of the students also qualify for free or reduced-price lunches.

These new materials will be used all year and help to alleviate the rising cost for families, who usually have to purchase these items at the beginning of the school year.

Students love to have brand new pencils, art supplies, and notebooks at the start of new year, however too often the beginning of a new school year is stressful for students, especially when they can't bring in the materials they need to succeed. It would be wonderful to know that the students are all set with supplies and feel good about knowing that they don't have to worry about doing without or using old materials from the year before. As their teacher it would be great not to have to ration cleaning wipes, Kleenex or paper towels because we have a decent amount to get us through the year. Times are tough for all right now, but our school children deserve to have the basic materials needed to learn and feel cared for in their classroom environment.
