Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from all different backgrounds, so this makes my classroom a really cool melting pot. I learn about new movies, music, food, and video games every day. They are always making me laugh and even on the hardest days I wouldn't trade my students for the world. I taught a lot of my students their 7th grade year and now I get to see them grow into 8th graders aka the "seniors" of middle school.

These middle school students have shown me what it means to be strong.

My students have taught me how to be extremely patient and understanding, how to be kind even when others are not, and how to remember that no matter what is going on in your life, there are people rooting for you. It warms my heart when I receive hugs in the hallways or when they do a little dance when they get an answer right in class. Even though my students come from what the world would consider a low-income home, they are rich in character and courage. They fight through adversity and push through personal pain to make sure that they get the education they deserve.

My Project

Many of my students come from low income homes and do not have the basic items. So many of them complain about how they do not have running water, money for deodorant, or toothpaste. They talk about how hungry they are after lunch because they did not find what the cafeteria was serving was appetizing.

These items will help my students focus less on the basic needs of food and cleanliness, and more on the curriculum.

This will also build their confidence in the classroom and they will not have the fear of someone bullying them because of how they smell or how hungry they are.
