My Students
My babies are some of the smartest, hardest working, mentally tough students in the city! In the heart of it, lies our small but mighty school in it's 2nd year of turnaround. What that meant for the students was new teachers, new administrators, new everything. But it also meant passionate, dedicated, hard-working, loving adults around every corner of the building. These adults have allowed our babies to grow and recognize their potential.
While my babies might not have much in the way of physical "stuff", they have perseverance and heart.
That is why they deserve to have the simple things needed for any school/classroom in America. I never want my students to have to worry about pencils or band-aids when they are trying to play catch up in terms of a massive achievement gap. That is why I take that weight on myself. They deserve the best. They are worth it!
My Project
My students come to school, rain or shine, healthy or sick, often with the weight of the world on them. When they don't have time to shower, or are not feeling fresh and clean, it can effect their state of mind. In addition, often an accident will happen over the weekend or over night and I am nursemaid in the morning! Having supplies to help my babies feel like normal, safe, clean middle school students would be a blessing! I have run through about 1000 bandaids this year already and about 50 sticks of deodorant! I've made a splint for a broken finger 2 TIMES out of popsicle sticks and wrapped a swollen ankle with gauze so a student could walk home. This is their reality and with a nurse in our school 1 day week at the most, it falls on me. Having deodorant for my students will allow them to not be self-conscious and feel clean. Band-aids and a first aid kit will allow my students to come to school and when a small injury or cut occurs, we can patch it up and keep on moving! Kleenex helps my babies during flu season as I have run out of tissue in my classroom and the sniffles continue! Last, cereal bars allow me to provide a snack or late breakfast for a student who doesn't eat unless they are here at school an maybe missed breakfast or won't eat again until the next day. Thank you in advance for helping me help my loves!
