Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. My students are all different types of learners and have various backgrounds. I have students who do not speak English, students with disabilities, and some students who are homeless.
I teach at a Title I school in New York where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive food and clothing from the school's charity drives. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
These classroom materials will help me to create an organized and welcoming classroom that is the most effective for learning. When students were forced into remote learning in March, they abandoned their classroom and all the memories that were left on the bulletin boards. My plan is to completely clean the classroom before school opens and get rid of all the previous year’s papers, decor, posts and anything paper on the walls that could have harbored any germs.
With these materials, I will refresh the classroom so that is is most importantly clean and feels safe, but also welcoming and organized so that the students can social distance and learn.
If we do not go back into the building, I will use the materials to decorate my background wall when I am live teaching, to give a bit of normalcy for the students and save the rest for my classroom when, we eventually return.
