This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In Chicago we rejoice when the weather is good! Spending time outside before and after winter is a huge WIN! With portable stools, yoga mats and clipboards teachers can take students outside to work on their social emotional learning. Setting up an outdoor classroom would allow students and teachers to connect on a new level! Students can gather to engage in discussions, art therapy and other SEL activities in a quiet, safe and outdoor setting.

My goal for this project is to give students the freedom of working outside to better their well being.

Having the chance to breathe fresh air opens up channels for students to unwind, relax and have deeper conversations about important topics such as mental health and well being.

The students at my school are kind, compassionate and empathetic. Like all skills, positive mental health practice takes time. Giving them the opportunity to share feelings outdoors will allow them to be engaged in SEL while being closer to nature.
