Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are great. They love learning, and they enjoy coming to school. My students are mostly immigrants or children of immigrants. Many are English language learners (ELLs). Nearly all students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch because their family household incomes are below the poverty line.

My school is a large, crowded school in a very large urban district.

This past year, we have had a lot of budget cuts. Several staff from our school were cut. Most of our budget has been used to keep the teachers and staff that we do have. Even though the school has limited resources, students have some of the highest test scores in the area.

My Project

Help my students keep learning from home! Most of my students have opted to continue with remote learning third quarter. I want to make sure my students have the tools they they to be successful even while learning at home. My students need pencils and paint to complete classroom projects.

Few of my students have access to printers and digital assignments are challenging for young learners.

My students need workbooks to develop their writing skills while at home. The colorful images in these workbooks are inviting for young learners and the writing activities are age-appropriate. We will use these books in class daily. They will help provide structure to our remote learning and will be a great vocabulary resource.

Finally, I have noticed that many of my students are taking classes from loud multi-generaltional homes or daycares without headphones. It is very difficult for my students to hear classroom instruction. They need headphones to better hear the lesson. They also need chargers to keep their iPads going all day. At this point in the year, many students have lost their chargers or the cords have broken from overuse.

All children deserve to learn. Thank you for helping me make sure my students have the tools they need to learn from home.
