French Films For Learning!

My students need 13 French DVDs to enhance their learning of French language and culture.

My Students

Learning French is much more than grammar! Help my students understand French language and culture better through film. We are looking to build a French-language film collection for my school, and we could use your help!

My students are a wonderful group of teenagers (grades 9-12) who are excited to learn French.

Their interests include music, community service, art, athletics, and robotics, and they come from a great diversity of backgrounds. Many are first-generation Americans from countries on every continent. This richness of cultural heritage makes our school unique in our area. My students love learning about French culture as they are studying the language.

My Project

We are requesting a French DVD collection that includes a variety of films for our five levels of French classes. Films requested include crowd favorites like the Chorus (Les Choristes), documentaries like To Be and To Have (Etre et Avoir), and important New Wave films like The 400 Blows (Les 400 Coups). This collection will ensure that our students have a French experience that is rich and that provides them with the cultural understanding they can use when they travel abroad, study French in college, or meet people from other backgrounds.

Students in modern language classes have the advantage of learning about another culture while also learning to communicate with the language.

This makes our students better prepared for the global economy and the challenges of tomorrow. A film can be not only a motivational learning experience, but it can make the language seem real for students and can help them see that the world is a big place with many rich cinematic traditions. Help us make film a part of our curriculum!
