Help me give my students the ability to have the freedom of motion, regulate their bodies, create independent climbing activities, and increase their motor development skills.
I have two half day mixed age preschool classes of three, four, and five year olds.
My school is in a low-income area and all of my students are on free or reduced breakfast and lunch.
They love coming to school and all have loving and caring families that are extremely involved in the classroom. They are grateful for the positive experience their students are having for their first time in school.
My Project
While continuing my understanding of early childhood education and what is developmentally appropriate for young children I have learned that movement is ESSENTIAL for young children. Rarely do they learn sitting still. Moving their bodies constantly is developmentally appropriate and I would like to provide some unique but independent and safe opportunities for them to develop gross motor skills, regulate their bodies and in turn their emotions, and give them the freedom to move how their body is telling them to move at any time while they are in the classroom, not just outside! These materials will give my students an opportunity to climb, rock, and spin in the classroom during center time. These actions are needed for them to develop gross motor skills. Before they can learn to write they need to have their trunk and shoulder muscles developed. These materials will help develop those muscles.
