Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a small continuation high school where students are given opportunities that they may not receive in a traditional school. In their past schooling experiences, many of our students have been told "they can't," we are here to tell them "they can".
Our students come from all over the city, many taking 2-3 buses 1-2 hours each way.
We also offer parenting classes and daycare services for our young parents, who often travel these bus routes with their children and strollers in tow. We try to do everything we can to provide the best education for these students so they can become productive members of our society!
My Project
A celebration of student achievement and recognition, our art show is a fundamental event in our school year. Many of our students have not been successful in the past so by displaying their artwork for the community to see, we hope to encourage them to continue trying, taking risks, and choosing positive outlets of expression! By giving students journals they can continue making great art and expressing themselves positively.
By sending the artwork home professionally framed, students can exhibit pride in their work and display it in their homes for all of their friends and families to see.
Our hope is that this will act as a reminder to the students and their families of the success they had while they were here, and that they will continue to make positive choices in their lives!
