My Project
This project will give my students the resources to develop a strong understanding of fractions. The goal of this project is to give kids who struggle with understanding fractions the manipulatives to make a concrete connection between fractional numbers and how they are manipulated. The specific items needed are fraction tiles and practice boards. The goal is to give kids remediated instruction prior to class. This will make my students more prepared for Algebra or Pre-Algebra.
My students are identified with specific learning disablities, attentional deficits or mild autism.
These students with math deficits need physical manipulatives to make a connection between the fractional concept and mathematical representation. I do cook and use the products with division, but that only works for one or two days. These tiles will give kids multiple opportunities to manipulate and associate fractional representations.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
