Our school is located in a rural, mountainous, and geographically remote area of West Virginia. Over three-quarters of our students come from low-income households. To ensure these students are College and Career Ready when they graduate high school, we need to give them rich learning experiences with problem solving.
My Project
My students in Algebra 2 are struggling to solve equations with fractions. Computational skills that involve fractions can often hold students back when they are solving equations and inequalities.
These calculators will allow students to fine tune their conceptual understanding in Algebra 2 without the struggles that come with tedious arithmetic.
As we plan for all students returning to 5 days of face-to-face instruction, it is important to have enough resources in the classroom so that students are not passing calculators back and forth. The addition of the 10 new calculators will reduce the need for sharing calculators.
