Help me give my students interactive math opportunities to build their number sense. Fractions are difficult for students and the folder games, dominos, flashcards, and game boards will give them a collaborative opportunity to learn together.

My Students
I work with an amazingly diverse and talented group of scholars. All of the students that I support have a disability supported by an IEP and/or are an English Language Learning student. While they may come to school each day with their own challenges, they persevere through the middle school years, which are not easy for anyone!
The majority of students that I work with have an Individualized Education Plan and receive Special Education services.
Most of the students I support have Emotional/Behavior Disorders or Autism Spectrum Disorder. I learn more from them each day than they could ever take away from my classroom. I am grateful with each incoming class of 6th graders and love watching them grow through eighth grade.
My Project
I teach in a co-taught and small group math setting with a wide variety of learning preferences. I am adding more centers and individualized activities in order to better engage students in their math education. We need to especially focus on number sense with fractions, decimals and percents.
Math has been a struggle for many of my students and by the time they are getting into middle school they have begun giving up.
I want my students to be able to challenge their thinking and use these resources in order to reinforce the knowledge they have. The Number Talks curriculum exposes students to the process of finding multiple ways to solve a problem. The station materials are dry-erase and allow for students to make errors and correct their thinking. I believe that growth mindset, especially in math, is very important within the learning process. The math station lessons will provide the students with independence and confidence to push through middle school. Many items provide visual models which is a common learning style for my students with Autism.
