Help me give my students hands-on resources and activities that they can use to build their understanding of decimals and fractions in a way that is relatable to them.
Hello! I am thrilled to have the amazing opportunity to teach another wonderful group of 5th-grade students this year. This is my second year teaching a group of dual language immersion students, and I have loved being their teacher. My students are motivated, creative, and fun-loving individuals who enjoy learning and trying new things.
One thing that I’ve learned about fifth grade students is that they learn best when they are able to apply concepts in a way that is relatable their own life experiences.
Their individual needs are a major focus of mine as I plan instruction, determine which strategies to use, and even as I organize the classroom. Decimal and fraction instruction is no exception; applying the concepts with money, pizza, and fun games helps students apply what they’re learning in math class to concepts they already understand from their life experiences. I am hoping that this DonorsChoose fundraiser will help me provide high-quality learning experiences for each of my students.
