This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

For third graders, floor seating with back support — is important for several developmental and learning reasons:

1.

Physical Development

• At this age, many children are still building core strength and posture stamina. Sitting “crisscross” or without support for long periods can be tiring and uncomfortable. Backing helps them sit upright longer, reducing fidgeting from physical fatigue.

2. Attention & Focus

• When children are uncomfortable, they shift, slump, or wiggle. Providing supportive seating minimizes these distractions so their mental energy can go toward listening and learning instead of adjusting their body.

3. Accessibility & Inclusion

• Not all students have the same physical abilities. Floor seating with backing accommodates children with posture or mobility challenges, ensuring everyone can fully participate in group learning.

4. Classroom Management

• When kids are comfortable and contained in a defined seat with backing, there’s less sprawling, crowding, or bumping into peers — making transitions and group discussions smoother.

5. Longer Engagement in Collaborative Learning

• Third graders often gather for read-alouds, discussions, or partner work. Supportive seating helps them stay engaged for longer stretches, especially as the academic demands increase in 3rd grade compared to primary grades.
