Fourth Grades Need an IdeaPad to Increase their Financial Literacy!
Help me give my students an IdeaPad to use in class to create "Class Cash" and items to sell in our classroom store to increase our financial literacy.
I teach fourth grade at a Title I school located in Central Florida. 98% of students at my school are eligible for free/reduced price lunches. I teach math and science to a total of 48 students. Our students come from a variety of social, behavioral, and emotional backgrounds.
I know my students are eager to come back to school, and also nervous about adjusting to the new protocols; I want to make sure I am doing the best I can to ensure their safety and wellness while they are under my care.
My students are eager to learn. This project will provide a safe learning environment for all of my learners while they are in my classroom.
My Project
This project will help provide important lifelong lessons for forty-five, fourth grade students. With this project, we will be able to set up a classroom economy system in which students earn "class cash" by completing classroom job duties, outstanding attendance (which is a huge issue at our school), following SOPs, demonstrating growth on diagnostic assessments and other demonstrated behaviors worth rewarding.
This project will allow my fourth graders the opportunity to learn about financial literacy through a classroom economy, as well as increase daily attendance, classwork completion and encourage appropriate behaviors.
Students will be able to utilize the IdeaPad to create "class cash" and personalized items with our Silhouette to "sell" in our class store to each other. We received a Silhouette last year but are unable to download any of the Silhouette programs to operate it on my work computer because it is blocked. Involving the students in this process to explore financial literacy will be a lifelong memory for them!
