Help me give my students supplies to use for STEM projects such as ear buds, clipboards, foam mats to sit on for outside work, and ink to print materials.
I teach fourth grade at a Title I school located in Central Florida. 98% of students at my school are eligible for free/reduced price lunches. I teach math and science to a total of 48 students. Our students come from a variety of social, behavioral, and emotional backgrounds.
I know my students are eager to come back to school, and also nervous about adjusting to the new protocols; I want to make sure I am doing the best I can to ensure their safety and wellness while they are under my care.
My students are eager to learn. This project will provide a safe learning environment for all of my learners while they are in my classroom.
My Project
This project will provide materials for my fourth graders and I to sit in the grassy area outside our classroom for STEM lessons. We will complete a total of 4 STEM lessons this year, they are as follows: Roller Coaster Design, Magnets are Everywhere, Parachute Drop and student choice.
We will utilize the many resources available in the IF/THEN Collection to not only conduct our lessons but to also research and learn about the many different women STEM innovators, we will showcase these women during our school Women's History Month celebration.
My students will love the opportunity to conduct STEM activities outside with these amazing resources!
This project will provide our class with 12 additional plastic clipboards which can be easily cleaned (we already have 12) the students will use these clipboards to hold paper and write on for the duration of all of the STEM projects. Students will be able to sit on the foam mats in the grass and on the sidewalk to complete all of the projects so they don't have to sit on the hot cement/grass. The students have to use their Chromebooks for research for all four projects. The research will include videos and interviews, the students will get to use the earbuds so each of them can listen to the clips individually. The printer ink will be used to print the templates for the roller coaster and parachute drop, and if needed for the student choice project.
