Help me give my students a relaxing location in the classroom that supports their emotional wellbeing through the use of a new carpet, stuffed animal buddies, calming decorations, comfy chairs and wall stickers.
I teach fourth grade at a Title I-funded school located in Central Florida. Ninety-eight percent of students at my school are eligible for free or reduced price lunch. I teach math and science to a total of 24 fourth graders.
Our school day is anything but "average".
I want to provide my students with a safe, welcoming area in our classroom where they can go and take a break from the day and take a minute for themselves.
My students have done a fantastic job adjusting to the many changes at school to adhere to the many changes put in place as a result of the pandemic. Lets face it, this has been a trying time for all of us, including children. This project will help not only help support my students' mental health by providing them with an area to regroup and take a break but will also encourage them to successfully handle life stresses by building their emotional wellness through the use of informational books and wellness buddies.
My Project
I am requesting materials to create a safe, calm down corner for my fourth graders. We will need a carpet, chairs, stuffed animal buddies, wall stickers and warm, inviting decorations. This project will help provide my fourth graders with a safe, inviting location to go to in the classroom when they need a break, a moment to gather their thoughts, or to work with other classmates.
My fourth graders need a Calm Down Corner, a place they can go throughout the day when they need a break.
This project will provide my fourth graders with a beautiful blue rug, big enough for everyone to sit, read and relax. I will also be able to get fish and under the water window clings and wall stickers to decorate our corner with.
These materials will provide my students with a cozy and inviting area, which I feel is important to help increase their emotional well-being and mental health. People can't bottle up their emotions when they are feeling mad, angry or anxious. A lot of times, just stepping away helps so much. This corner will be the sanctuary for students to go to when they need to take a break.
These materials will be well taken care of used for many years to come. Without your help, my students would not have access to this safe location.
