This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach fourth grade at a school in inner-city Los Angeles. My students are brimming with curiosity and work hard to achieve their academic goals. My students are voracious readers and devour several chapter books a week. I try very hard to make sure my students have access to the best books around and that reading is part of their nightly routine. Students borrow my books and take them home to read nightly. Most of my students have already read through my classroom library and I'm in desperate need of some new titles.

My Project

My fourth graders are avid readers and my current classroom library will not sustain them for the rest of the year. When I asked my students what books they would like me to purchase, they gave me an exhaustive list, both fiction and nonfiction. These books will have a great impact on my students, as they will use them both in the classroom as well as take them home to read. Research and common sense show that the more students read, the better readers they become. My students absolutely love books and they deserve a top-notch classroom library. Unfortunately, we lack the resources and funding at our school and in our community.
