~All students can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way. ~ My goal is to help them learn something new every day, to help them appreciate the differences in life, and approach everything with an open mind.
My day begins passing out breakfast to my first period students.
More than 60% of the students that attend my school qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Working in an impoverished system means that a large amount of time is spent ensuring student's basic needs are met. How can I be mad if someone did not bring a pencil when they slept on the floor last night? How can I be mad at a student who does not have paper and their parents do not have any mode of transportation in a rural area with no transportation infrastructure?
My Project
My class is the first of its kind in my school district and our partnering district. We have opened a new career tech center and my classroom is for Education and Training students. These students come from four different high schools in our area and are bused each day to and from class. They will be taking three classes designed to give them real world experience in the foundations of education and experience in elementary school classrooms.
My students will create lessons that they will then teach in our local elementary school classrooms.
In order for our students to be successful we need supplies to help them facilitate their lessons. We are trying to focus on merging grade level state standards with activities that allow the students to participate in hands-on learning.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
