Help me give my students the experience with a multi sensory approach, encouraging hands on participation with materials that will help them develop handwriting skills to prepare them for kindergarten.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
For many of many students, this is their first experience at school. Many started the school year lacking the fine motor skills needed for hand eye coordination. My students are all at different levels but seem to be developing age appropriately.
My Project
Learning handwriting requires the ability regularly to distinguish certain shapes and to translate those distinct mental images into consistent physical motions in one's hand. It requires the ability to hold a writing instrument in a comfortable manner. It requires the writer to consistently follow certain well-defined, pre-prescribed motions.
I plan to slowly introduce Handwriting Without Tears materials during small group instruction.
Once my students are familiar with the use of Handwriting Without Tears materials, they will be encouraged to use them independently during choice time and quiet activities throughout the day.
