This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When you first walk into my Newcomer Math and Science classes you will possibly overhear not only English being spoken but also Spanish, Chinese, Filipino, Arabic, and Igbo.
These Newcomer students have all recently immigrated from eight different countries but all have one common goal: to learn the English language while mastering Math and Science skills and concepts.
They all deserve access to technological resources that many of them do not have at home. All of these students speak English as a Second Language and are eager to learn and ready to work hard to achieve their goals.
My Project
These Chromebook laptops will allow students daily access to a math online curriculum, Agile Minds, which my school recently adopted to help us be prepared and align to the Mathematical Common Core State Standards. By having online access to this curriculum they will practice solving mathematical word problems by persevering to understand and solve problems. They will have access to Google Translate and other websites where they can practice improving their English language skills and academic vocabulary.
Any donation, big or small will give these students an opportunity to succeed by having access to websites and programs on a daily basis that they normally might not get at home.
It will prepare my students for a brighter future!
