This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a special education teacher, in an ICT classroom in the Bronx, I take pride in seeing my students thrive and become successful every day.
Many of our students are now learning fully remote and are forced to continue their education from home.
Unfortunately, this new routine of online learning has become detrimental to everyday academic instruction and has had a huge impact on my students, specifically those with special needs. It is for this reason that I am now looking for ways to inspire my student's love for learning in ways that entice their curiosity in the subject.
Obstacles in our life should not impede our students from receiving the education they deserve, which is why I try to foster a classroom where their love for learning continues to grow!
My Project
As a special education teacher, I serve a diverse array of personalities in an ICT setting. In my classroom, I have a mixed group of students with disabilities who are impacted by their attention, focus, and ability to reach grade-level standards. During class instruction, they often struggle to stay engaged during remote lessons since they all have individual learning styles. Furthermore, this worldwide pandemic has affected their academic achievement greatly, but they seem to learn best when lessons are presented to them in a variety of different mediums using universally designed instruction.... this time, remotely!
Being able to screen record my math lessons with audio while using an iPad can help support student learning in times of distance learning.
Some students do not have reliable internet; thus, being able to provide them with color-coded recorded lessons that could be watched at any time, will help them continue learning regardless of where they’re learning or what their internet situation is. The Apple iPad will be used to create color-coded lessons, as such can support mathematical thinking by helping students not only organize their thinking, and make thinking visible, but also make connections. Using the iPad for math lessons can also help strengthen visual representations to help internalize their learning.
