Fostering Meaningful Communication

My Project

All of the students on my caseload are working on building and improving their communication skills- from increasing their vocabulary, to answering questions during story read-alouds, and even perfecting their speech sounds.

I want to ensure that we have the materials available to create and foster meaningful and engaging opportunities for the students to work on their targeted skills in speech therapy sessions.

Every student has unique interests and each are motivated in different ways, which is what drove the selection of the items picked for this project.

I plan on using the requested books in therapy activities that will target key language areas, including story retelling, identifying story elements, and answering comprehension questions. The toys and games will also be used to help students in various communicative areas such as increasing word use and sentence length, as well as participating in social interactions and generalizing correct production of speech sounds to conversation.
