Fostering Independence, Teaching Organization

My students need cubbies with hooks for their coats and backpacks and a separate section for their blankets. They need these types of cubbies so they are able to access their items independently.

My Students

My students are 3-5 years old and all have developmental delays. Some of these delays include cognitive delays, physical impairments, speech and language deficits, and fine and gross motor delays, to name a few. Almost all of my students receive related services (PT, OT, Speech). We are one of the few programs for preschool-aged students with disabilities in our district.

My students love coming to school to interact with their teachers, therapists, and peers.

Our classroom is a classroom of play, exploring, and growing. We work hard on developing appropriate play skills, pre-academic skills, and social/emotional skills. We are continuously learning through play and our daily interactions with others.

My Project

These cubbies will help my students gain independence in simple tasks such as unpacking and preparing for the day, retrieving items independently during the day, and packing up at the end of the day. Currently, my students have a cubby hole where their blanket, coat, and backpack all get stuffed. Cubbies with hooks will give them a place to hang their coat and backpack. The separate sections will provide them a space to keep their blanket and extra clothes and will also allow them to get and put away needed items independently. Have these cubbies will help my students with their organization and independent living skills.
