This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are middle schoolers! So many of them want independence, but need assistance fostering their organizational and executive functional skills to become the independent teenagers they want to be. The routine of keeping and storing their materials for Spanish class in a binder and in my classroom will help students who struggle with the transitions and traveling from one classroom to another, throughout the school.

This project will help my students learn how to organize their materials for Spanish class, without the burden of cost on their families.

Spanish class is now considered a "specials" class, and they have my class every other day. With student absences, weekends, and other interruptions to the schedule, students forget their materials at home, their parents car, etc. Missing /lost materials mean extra copies and time. This year, I created a system where students can leave their materials in my classroom- this has helped so much with lost/missing class materials. To be honest, binders would improve this situation so much more than our current system.

With binders, students will be able to organize their materials and learn the process or organization as well. The requested materials will assist students with their executive functioning skills and provide them with the materials they need to be successful without the added financial burden on their families. Students have access to their notes, study guides, etc. through Google Classroom but can also have their hardcopy materials in the classroom. The routine that these materials help create will be beneficial for all. Afterall, chromebooks are not folders, and should not be used to hold their school papers.
