Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Somewhere something incredible is waiting to be known."- Carl Sagan.
My students believe this everyday and inspire me to give them the tools to keep discovering.
My students are all second language learners in a Structured English Immersion/ Bilingual program.
Our school, which is located in Texas, is Title I, meaning that 40% or more of the school population is at or below the poverty level. My students face many challenges, but they always look forward to Science class. In fact, many of them come to me first thing in the morning to express their anticipation for the afternoon's science lesson.
My Project
Unfortunately, school resources and funding are limited so there are many things that we have to do without. I'd love to provide more hands on learning as well as supplemental literature in the classroom. With the supplies I've listed, our science class will be able to experience learning through biology science kits, hand lenses, microscopes, geodes, rock and mineral specimens, scales, measuring tools, magnets and resources to create additional science stations, as well as providing basic school supplies needed in the classroom such as highlighters, folders, post it notes and chart paper.
Fostering an interest and better understanding of science through the use of these resources, as well as providing the tools needed for success in school, will help my students to compete academically and will hopefully lead to interest in important fields related to math and science.
