This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The majority of students serviced by our school come from low socioeconomic households that do not have access to technology or internet access at home. The closest public library is more than 7 miles away. They rarely have time to explore and create self-selected projects online. The school library only has 10 outdated desktops, which are always being used before and after school by students. We have students sitting behind other students waiting for to use one of the 10 computers we presently have in the library. The storm last year crippled many of our families financially and emotionally, so I started opening the library before and after school to give students a safe place to explore and learn. Students have started using the library as a means to find some normalcy in their lives and grow intellectually.
My Project
By donating to our project, you will be giving my students an opportunity to independently create and explore technology, which will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. We presently have a time limit on the computers, so that each students is only given a brief amount of time to use technology. Having more computers available will remove time limits that we presently have on computers. My students will use Dell Inspirons to explore technology concepts learned in their core classes. They will have an opportunity to freely create and design projects that while increasing their learning! The laptops will give access to students to spend more time on creating and designing online projects.
