Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach a class of enthusiastic kindergarten students who come from diverse backgrounds, with many from low-income families. A significant portion of my students are bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish, and they are in the early stages of learning how to read and write in both languages.
In our classroom, reading is more than just a skill—it’s a gateway to exploring the world, expressing ideas, and building confidence.
By providing a selection of high-quality books, I can help my students develop their language skills and cultivate a love of reading.
The books I am requesting will include stories related and meaningful to them. These books will not only help with literacy but also strengthen their cultural identity and connection to the classroom community.
I will be using these books during Storytime, and read-aloud sessions to engage my students and help them develop their vocabulary and comprehension skills, as well during Independent Reading were my students will practice reading on their own, supporting language development at their own pace.
