My Students

I am a teacher in a small rural school with 18 magnificent first graders! One of the things I love most about my students are that they are eager to learn. My kids are pushed to think outside of the box and they have extraordinary imaginations. My classroom is filled with lots of energetic and active kids that never seize to amaze me. Working in a low income school really pushes me to be the best teacher I can be for these kids and to make sure they have a pleasant and inviting classroom to come into everyday.

My Project

These books added to my library will continue to help foster my students love of reading. My hope for my students is that they would use books as gateway to learning.

Having a library rich in diversity, and different genres allow my students to be exposed to a variety of texts.

All of these books will be used to teach from. I have special activities and lessons planned for each book to help develop a deeper understanding of the books.

For example: With the book "Cloudette" I am able to incorporate science into our reading lesson. Students will be learning throughout the book about the different types of clouds. Through an extension lesson I will then allow the students to create their own "clouds" and write facts that they learned about clouds along with their creations.

My goal is to make learning fun. These books would allow me to use literature to teach and not just use a textbook.
