This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our classroom is filled with eager young readers, especially our 5th grade boys who are at a pivotal age where developing a passion for reading can set the stage for lifelong learning. To keep this momentum, we need books that spark their imagination and excitement. My class recently took a reading survey and the results are in! The majority of the boys wanted more book choices with boys as the protagonists in adventure and mystery series like Goosebumps, Magic Tree House Series, and Boxcar Children. These books are perfect for this age group, capturing their curiosity and encouraging them to explore new worlds through the pages of a book. Not only will this serve our boy population but in general these are good books for any child.

These stories transport them to exciting places, making reading an adventure in itself.

Books like Cat Kid, Dog Man, and Minecraft also play a crucial role in engaging reluctant readers by combining humor, relatable characters, and interactive storytelling. These graphic novels and chapter books are not just entertaining; they are a bridge to more complex literature. When children see themselves reflected in these stories or connect with the characters' experiences, they are more likely to pick up a book and keep reading. This increases their reading stamina, comprehension, and overall literacy skills.

By adding these titles to our classroom library, we can motivate our students to become avid readers. The thrill of uncovering a mystery, the joy of a well-timed joke, or the excitement of a new adventure keeps them coming back for more.
