Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everyday is an opportunity to teach and learn alongside my wonderful class. They love a learning challenge, and if they fall short, they know they can reach their goals through hard work, perseverance, support from one another, and the power of yet.
Most importantly, my students respect one another's backgrounds.
My class is made up of military families and families from all around our country and world. They've realized that, even though they speak a variety of languages, they have recognized and celebrated their differences, and found common threads that unite them as people. In short, they are a microcosm of our country--learning and living while respecting one another's differences.
My Project
Our classroom library is one of the most popular areas in our class. Students find books, genres, and authors to enjoy throughout the year. I strive to provide a wide variety of books to foster a love of reading and knowledge. There is a great feeling of satisfaction knowing my students value reading for learning and enjoyment. Their love for reading increases their reading skills and strategies.
Recently, my students requested genres and titles our library lacks, such as graphic novels and STEM books.
I realized their requests reflect their wide variety of interests. Adding these titles to our library will address their reading needs and introduce them to new authors and topics. In addition, these titles support our literature, science, and social studies units of study.
