Forget, 'More Cowbell' We Need a TV!

My students need a flat panel LCD TV.

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Bell's classroom raised $865

This project is fully funded

Our school is located is uniquely positioned zip code on the outskirts of a troubled city. We are a neighborhood school where family ties run as deep as the community resentment. But my media class we are an oasis in the mind. We create to escape. Inside 116 we are a "new" family and 90 minutes at a time we work together as such! It has been a challenge to teach this skill for unification and accountability, especially for a 1st year teacher like myself but we continue to advance forward toward success one day at a time :)

We are a media rich society. Yet in our media program, lack of funding, budget cuts due to poor participation from student and families with Federal F.A.R.M. forms coupled with the transient nature of our school body make efforts for sustainability a real challenge. Our principal has placed a great deal of hope in our media program, not only to disseminate information throughout the school and but to serve as positive PR to attract and keep students involved and interested in their learning process. As a former commercial director, I serve as the fulcrum to leverage student knowledge with real world experience and correlate the students expectations directly with their present academic performance.

The solution is to offer more improved equipment to enable a better production experience and create a positive buzz in the community about our students, school and program. Improved viewing on a flat panel LCD screen get students excited as they realize the quality of their production meets the standard of what they typically view on TV. Additional projects that seek funding in the future will include materials needed for sound stage production. But as I stated before, one class, one day, one project and one quarter at a time.

As a donor you will encourage education and enrichment of socially challenged children to see themselves in a new light. Many of my students are rape survivors, abuse survivors, overcome incestuous rape, and champion homelessness and loss of life of loved ones. Storytelling via media can be one of the most cathartic solutions and aid in self therapy to ease their challenged young souls. It is my job to put educated and improved young men and women into our shared social experiment we call society. With the trust of my students, their courage and the compassion and encouragement of donors like you we may make a more compelling alternative to the hit shows like HBO series 'The Wire', which displays negative depictions of urban youth, to create telling media that educate and inform viewers about the richness of adversity within our city!
