Forensic Science Goes Virtual

My students need two Forensic Science Activity CD-ROM licenses to complete virtual lab activities.

My Students

We are a rural, low-income school district surrounded by farmland, which many students live and work on. Many of my students are tactile or kinesthetic learners who enjoy being able to get out of their desks, work with their hands, experiment, and create things.

Our district is in the process of rebuilding after a period of financial hardship in which we had to downsize and cut many of our elective courses.

Forensic Science was created as a new elective course to give students the hands-on learning opportunities they were missing and to increase interest in science careers.

My Project

This project will allow students to apply their scientific knowledge and skills to solve crimes in a virtual world. Students will feel like real-life detectives as they test and analyze evidence then form a hypothesis. Our school could never afford all of the lab equipment needed in a crime or medical laboratory, but these forensic CD-ROM programs will allow students to learn about and navigate the technology without the heavy price tag.

These activities will help increase student interest in both our science curriculum and future career paths.

It will also help my students build their technology skills as they use computer software in new ways.
